The last few years, when independent and creative game construction has become especially popular, large corporations have made a good habit – to devote time to ambitious, bold inexpensive projects on their shows. The past Gamescom was very rich in announcements of this kind, and the most strange and incomprehensible was The Tomorrow Children.

From the trailer shown during a press conference Sony, Even the genre of the game was not clear. But Soviet aesthetics, patriotic military marches and small pioneers similar to dolls were able to intrigue the press. Therefore, soon a little more became known about the simulator of communism.

Capital, vodka, Soviet bear

In 1960, the next version of the end of the world suffered the earth. This time, Soviet scientists conducted an experiment, trying to “unite all human consciousnesses into one”. The resulting substance got out of control and covered the surface of the planet. The few survivors learned to create clone girls who will help to build a marvelous new world.

The game begins a hundred years after the cataclysm, when the position is more or less tired. There is a white desert (emptiness, the same sum of consciousnesses), red cliffs sticking out of it, small settlements and some iron years of ethnic groups that prevent everyone from living. Before us is another variation Minecraft, And this is a beaten comparison, alas, the most accurate.

Every morning, a clon girl wakes up under your leadership and goes to work together with several dozen of the same. This is a multiplayer game, so there is 50 – 100 people on one server. Everyone gets into cars and go to look for a place for excavations.

After a few minutes nearby, there is a “symbol of the past” – a gigantic something sticking out of the void. It can be a face, a sickle and a hammer, a conditional rocket or another item reminiscent of the old days. It consists of a homogeneous substance, and inside itself hides a network of tunnels and caves. Therefore, players will have to dig.

There is a persistent sensation that somewhere it was: a dozen girls hopes a huge hill, hoping to find a useful one inside. Initially, you are digging to find nesting dolls with survivors after the apocalypse and at the same time collect resources. You can blow up entire cavities using dynamite, install the steps, with active techniques to hut the rounded long corridors. Someone will have to take care of the lighting: spend on a mushroom lamp, install it and drag it along the way the miners are digging.

In theory, you do not have to do exclusively routine work on a par with everyone: you can drive past the human site and go in search of your own island of treasures – they appear randomly, so being is considered socially useful.

After 15 – 20 minutes, the working day ends, and the clones return to one of the cities. It is necessary to come to the conditional authorities and report on the work done during the day. Accordingly, “Soviet coupons” will be distributed to this, money. They are needed for the “custom” of the character and the purchase of the best tools.

Theoretical foundations of communism

Resources are collected in order to build your own city – as in a real strategy. Several types of buildings, each of which is useful in its own way, wandering around the streets residents and even defensive structures. The catch is that all players have the right to build and break the right to create a “place of your dreams”.

As the population will grow, it will begin to demand attention more and more to interfere with itself than to bring benefits (no information about how it will be realized specifically). To satisfy all the needs of the owners-you are still a clone, do not forget-the players will have to cooperate and engage in boring, routine work. On the way to the bright future, of course.

But not only beneficial red cliffs emerge from the void: a huge chrome monster (spider with turrets, an antediluvian robot, a two -legged lizard) may appear). It wants to break everything you acquired, which means it should be shot. Siren sounds, all others should urgently run away to defense. Combat vehicles bought in advance weapons installed by turrets are used. And if your own skin is more expensive, then you can sit on a long -distance tram and evacuate. The reward for the battle will be the corpse of an animal that can be disassembled for rare minerals.

Actually, these four points – dig a city, grow people, kill Godzill – and form the basis of mechanics The Tomorrow Children. Only one question remains: what is the final goal? The authors themselves do not give an answer. In the current form, the project seems more like a social experiment.

All of these mechanics require players of an incredibly complex thing – coordination with strangers. There is no official division into roles and classes, but one person will not be able to do everything at the same time. It is understood that there will be daredevils-guards themselves, a caste of builders and miners will be formed.

Example. When the siren sounds, no one forces you to run to the city. This will take the whole working day: three minutes there, three – back, ten – per shootout. But gold does not dig itself. But the clones standing nearby seem to reason the same way-no one moved and did not rush to defend! Will the monster break everything that was built?

Or more. Mineral mining in groups of several people more effective. But, on the other hand, you have much more a chance to find an American dollar

, the currency of the black market. The best tools and weapons are purchased for it. Stay alone for yourself or work for the benefit of society?

Developers are very proud that in The Tomorrow Children you are not forced to do anything and you are free to determine the social role yourself. But after a half -hour presentation, I remained at a loss: so why do this at all? Unlike Minecraft, There are absolutely no ways to have fun, there are not enough opportunities – only responsibilities. Perhaps that is why the whole Western press dubbed the project “mysterious” and “intriguing”.
